The Project Change log

A Change log is a list containing some of the information about all or some of the Change request.

The Change log provides information about unforeseen changes on the project. For example, a Change log could be used as an agenda for a sponsor meeting or to provide input for a project status report.

The Change log contains one record for each Change request.

The content of each record depends on the reason for preparing the record. The following information should be regarded as guidance rather than required.

For each selected Change request
  • ID: The unique identifier of the requested Change.
  • Description: A summary description of the proposed change.
  • Raised by: The persons name who introduced the change.
  • Priority: The priority of the change. For example, high, medium, or low.
  • Date raised: The date when the requested Change request was introduced.
  • Owner: The name of the individual or sponsor responsible for handling the requested Change.
  • Target date: The target date for handling the Change request
  • Status: Agreed to analyse, Agreed to implement, Implemented, Deferred, Closed, or Rejected.
  • Status date: The date the requested Change status was last updated.

Additional information
  • Type of change: Small, for changes that have little potential impact. Large, for changes that have significant or unknown potential impact.
  • Assessment decision: Approved for implementation (small change only) Approved for analysis (large change only) Deferred Rejected
  • Analysis decision: Approved for implementation Deferred Rejected.
